Use the Gradebook
In order for an assignment to show up in the Gradebook, it must be created and published in its respective section (see assignments, quizzes, and discussions for more information).
A quick way to create a placeholder in your Gradebook is to create an assignment in the Calendar (see the Calendar module for more information).
To grade your assignments, go to the desired course and click on Grades.
Hiding and Releasing Grades
If you'd like to hide student grades while you're in the process of grading and then release each graded assignment at the same time, you should enable the Grade Posting Policy before beginning to grade, or at the start of the term.
1) To do this, click on Grades in the left hand menu.
2) Click on the gear icon on the right hand side
3) Click on Grade Posting Policy tab
4) Click the radio button for "Manually Post Grades"
5) Click Update
Now when you go into Gradebook to begin grading, all grades will be hidden until you release them.
To release grades for an assignment:
1) Hover the mouse in the column header for the assignment
2) Click on the options icon (3 dots) to reveal drop down menu
3) In drop down menu, click on Post Grades
4) Follow prompts to complete
In Class / On Paper Assignments
If you are grading assignments that are submitted in person, you can click within the column of each assignment and enter each student's grade into the cell.
Online/In Canvas Assignments
If you are grading online submissions, try the SpeedGrader. In the assignment column header, click on the assignment name. Then choose SpeedGrader in the right hand column.
Within the SpeedGrader, you can add comments to submitted papers, type in a grade on the right-hand side (1), or grade using a rubric (2) that you have created in the assignment section*.
When you are ready to grade the next student's submission, click on the arrow next to the previous student's name in the top left-hand corner.
