This exercise has several component parts dealing with the integration of Autodesk REVIT & cost estimating applications.
Part 1 Produce a quantity takeoff from your model created in lab #4
- Download and open the Revit File Structural Framing.rvt Download Structural Framing.rvt
- With the help of this video tutorials: Select Fields for a Schedule

Links to an external site.create the schedules (include the parameters you will use in a cost estimate, like length, area, volume where apply) for the following categories of elements:
- Floors
- Structural Columns
- Structural Foundations (for strip footings and isolated footings)
- Structural Framing (for beams)
- Walls (for foundation walls)
- Using the Revit Help on Export a Schedule Links to an external site. export your schedules from Revit.
- Import your schedules to excel in a single file and create a summary sheet.
- Create a report of the advantages and limitations of this approach to produce a quantity takeoff for cost estimating.
Part 2
- Download and unzip the file Revit to cost.zip Download Revit to cost.zip and perform the following tasks with the extracted files (please be sure to unzip it and work on the extracted files).
- Open the attached “Research Lab-w-Smallfitness16.rvt” and review the schedules created in this file.
- Open the attached Total Project Cost.XLS spreadsheet file. Examine its contents and structure.
- Compare the schedule information contained in the REVIT file with that in the Spreadsheet file
- Read the files “REVIT in cost estimating.doc” and “REVITScheduleViews.PDF” included in the ZIP file. The first document explains a “home-made” process to automate the integration of information between REVIT and the Cost Estimating spreadsheet. The second document explains how to create schedules in REVIT. You are encouraged to consult the Help files available in Autodesk REVIT software for a more up-to-date instructional material in this regard.
- Visit the website of Bexel Manager Links to an external site. software and review the published information on cost estimating capabilities of this software.
- Visit the Vico Office- https://vicooffice.dk/en/solutions/5d-financial-management/ Links to an external site. software website and review the published information on cost estimating capabilities of this tool be sure to watch the video.

- Author a report summarizing your findings and observations from conducting all the steps above.
For part 1 upload your Revit file with the schedules, the excel file with the imported schedules and your report; for part 2 submit your report.
