Financial Bylaws Summarized

SGA's governing documents can be found here and SGA's Bylaws can be found here Links to an external site.. This page summarizes some of the financial Bylaws that come up the most often in FBoard. Clubs are encouraged to read "Title 8. Fiscal Structure and Policy", especially "Article 3", which is the portion of the Bylaws that dictate what SGA may and may not fund.

 

Summary of the Fiscal Policy Bylaws:

  • Alcohol: SGA funds may not be used to purchase alcohol or any illegal substances (Title 8, Art. 3, § 1.A)
  • Used Funds: SGA may not hear funding requests which have already been spent or where the organization has entered into a contractual agreement with a third party (Title 8, Art. 3, § 1.F)
  • Graduate Students: SGA funds may only be used for the benefit of the Undergraduate Student Body (Title 8, Art. 3, § 1.G) 
  • Tickets and Income: All activities and items funded by SGA must be free of charge for all WPI undergraduate students. All income must be used to offset a portion or the entirety of the overall cost for the request but must not exceed the approved request amount. (Title 8, Art. 3, § 1.H)
  • Trips and Transportation: SGA may fund ground transportation and application fees in full, 60% of accommodations and registration fees, and may not fund air travel. (Title 8, Art. 3, § 2.A)
  • Apparel: SGA may fund up to 50% or $25 (whichever is lower) of 1 apparel item per year per club. This does not apply to apparel that will be kept within the club. (Title 8, Art. 3, § 1.F)
  • Food: SGA may not fund food meetings. Food meetings are defined as an internal club meeting where food provided to members of the general body does not contribute to the purpose of the club. SGA may fund food if it is deemed integral to the success of the event. (Title 8, Art. 3, § 2.F)
  • Retreats: SGA may fund for up to two retreats for eligible clubs, one of which may be off campus and must have added value when compared to on campus retreats. (Title 8, Art. 3, § 2.C)
  • Banquets: SGA may only fund banquets for Class III organizations. SGA may fund up to $30 per person with a maximum of $1200, not including transportation, for the event in its entirety. (Title 8, Art. 3, § 2.D)
